Rising utility bills and unpredictable weather events have highlighted the need for smarter home energy storage solutions that allow families to reduce dependence on the power grid. Whole home batteries are becoming central to this shift, offering homeowners both reliability and peace of mind. By investing in these systems, households are finding practical ways to create sustainable living environments while maintaining everyday comfort.
Whole home batteries give homeowners the ability to store renewable energy, most often generated by solar panels, and use it whenever it is needed. This helps families keep the lights on during power outages and lowers costs by supplying stored energy during times when grid electricity is most expensive. Unlike traditional backup generators, modern home energy storage systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with smart home solutions, providing quiet, dependable power while reducing a household’s carbon footprint.
Smarter energy management is also playing a critical role in this trend. With advanced monitoring tools, homeowners can track how much energy their household is using and make real time adjustments to reduce waste. Whether it is heating and cooling, lighting, or appliances, smart systems are helping families cut unnecessary expenses while contributing to sustainable living practices. The ability to see and control energy use has created a new level of awareness that directly benefits both household budgets and the environment.
As the household industry continues to evolve, energy independence is becoming an expectation rather than an option. Whole home batteries, intelligent storage capacity, and smart home solutions are giving homeowners the ability to take control of their energy future. These technologies represent more than convenience; they deliver financial savings, environmental responsibility, and a level of resilience that modern households increasingly demand. The shift toward smarter, greener homes is setting the standard for the next generation of living.
Print studio specializing in hand printed home linens, cushion covers, tablecloths, and tea towels, using traditional screen printing techniques. Each design is hand carved on mesh screens, hand pulled in their workshop using low impact pigment inks, and fixed via steam curing. Batches are limited to 100 metres per colourway to ensure consistent ink density and registration. Residual inks are recovered through a closed loop wash system, minimizing water and pigment waste. In addition to their core collection of botanical and geometrics, Thornback & Peel runs Print Your Own workshops where participants carve small screens and print personal designs onto fabric. A seasonal Artist Series collaborates with illustrators, translating their work into limited-edition home textile ranges.

We create responsibly produced textiles which combine timeless Nordic design with exquisite Peruvian craftsmanship. Our story is one of ethics, integrity and respect. It began in 2002, when our founders Tina and Lasse Elvang learned about the qualities of alpaca wool during a backpacking trip to Peru. Struck by its softness and durability, they set about blending elegant, pared-back aesthetics with centuries-old Peruvian weaving traditions, forging strong relationships with artisans, community projects and mills. A year later Elvang was born, becoming the first company to introduce throws made of alpaca wool to Scandinavia.
Today, our luxurious homewares and accessories are sold in numerous countries worldwide, but our social and environmental commitment remains unchanged. Making responsible choices lies at the heart of everything we do, from securing better pay for alpaca shepherds and employee benefits for weavers to reducing transport emissions, recycling packaging and repurposing fibres. This has led to the highest possible level of recognition within the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) as a Guaranteed Member and participation in the UN Global Compact Initiative, ensuring that our supply chains and business model put people, the planet and animals first.
Since our inception, we have grown into a leading provider of permanent shade structures. We have served both commercial and residential clients across a wide range of applications, including covered parking, pools, car washes, playgrounds, and patios. We are dedicated to providing unique shade solutions to everyone we work with, helping them stay cool and comfortable outdoors. With over 20 years of experience in the commercial shade industry, we take pride in helping our customers and their properties stay shaded and protected from the elements.
As the name suggests, we specialise in tables, mainly dining tables, desks, coffee tables and side tables. We also make solid oak table tops that fit a wide range of underframes, including sit-stand and commercial systems. Our range includes matching and complementary pieces: benches, shelves, monitor risers, footstools, and serving boards. These are made from the same materials as our tables — often using offcuts from larger builds to reduce waste.
We were inspired by the clean, useful forms of Scandinavian and mid-century design. We believed there had to be a better way. So we built it. We build all our furniture in-house at our workshop and store in North London. If you’re planning a visit, just get in touch, we sometimes work off-site or make deliveries and want to make sure someone’s here to meet you.
Biophilic design is a popular trend in home décor, reconnecting our living spaces with nature. It is built on the idea that humans have an instinctive love of the natural world. Bringing the outdoors in can therefore have a calming effect on daily life. In practice, this means weaving elements like indoor plants, abundant sunlight and organic materials into the design of a room.
When a home features greenery, natural light and earthy textures, it can feel more peaceful and balanced. Many people find that simply being in a bright, plant filled room leaves them feeling more relaxed. This approach is gaining traction among homeowners and designers as they discover that nature inspired interiors can improve mood and well being.
Houseplants are perhaps the most obvious element of biophilic design. Many homeowners now fill shelves, corners and even walls with live greenery. From potted ferns and peace lilies to hanging vines and small indoor trees, these plants bring a living presence indoors. They not only add color and life to a room, but they can actually improve air quality by filtering out common pollutants.
Perhaps more importantly for our state of mind, research shows that interacting with plants can lower blood pressure and reduce stress. Tasks as simple as potting or watering a plant can feel surprisingly calming after a long day. Even a few carefully placed succulents or an indoor herb garden on a kitchen windowsill can make a space feel fresher and more serene.
Our connection to nature also comes from sunlight. Maximizing natural light is another important aspect of biophilic homes. Large windows, skylights and glass doors allow sunshine to pour in, making rooms feel bright and inviting. This kind of daylight is known to boost mood, increase energy and even help regulate sleep cycles.
People who spend more time in well lit spaces often report better overall mood and focus compared to those in darker rooms. Designers often keep window treatments minimal or use light colored walls and mirrors to reflect light deeper into the room. Even during winter, a sunny room with large windows can lift the spirits and make the home feel connected to the outdoors.
Organic materials and colors complete the biophilic mix. Natural woods, stones, clays and plant inspired textiles give each room an earthy, tactile quality. For example, a wooden table with visible grain, a stone kitchen countertop or a simple clay vase can all add visual interest and a feeling of warmth. Fabrics like cotton, wool and linen in nature inspired colors bring comfort and softness.
These materials often feature irregular patterns or warm hues that are pleasing and grounding. Together, all these elements — plants, sunlight, wood and stone — work in harmony to craft an environment that feels like a serene extension of nature. In such a space, the home becomes a calming retreat that promotes relaxation, creativity and overall well being for everyone inside.
