Compañía Mega S.A. processes natural gas and recovers the components that supply Argentina’s petrochemical and energy markets. Operating since 2001, the company separates and fractionates rich natural gas streams to produce ethane, propane, butane, and natural gasoline. Ethane serves as a principal petrochemical feedstock, while the other recovered liquids are supplied to domestic customers and international markets. The business originated in a 1997 project developed by YPF, Petrobras, and Dow Argentina to capture greater value from natural gas resources. Its ownership is held by YPF with 38 percent, Petrobras with 34 percent, and Dow with 28 percent.

Operations link the Neuquén Basin with Bahía Blanca through processing, pipeline transport, fractionation, storage, and export infrastructure. At Loma La Lata in the Vaca Muerta formation, the company processes about 40 million standard cubic metres of natural gas each day, separating liquid components while directing methane into major gas transmission systems. A 12-inch, 600-kilometre pipeline carries the extracted liquids across Neuquén, Río Negro, La Pampa, and Buenos Aires to the Bahía Blanca fractionation plant. There, products are separated, stored, and dispatched through a dedicated pier in the Port of Bahía Blanca, Argentina’s deepwater port, enabling large-vessel exports.
