Portnellan Farm

Portnellan Farm is a family-run agricultural business located on the secluded south shore of Loch Lomond. Its principal farm product is organic beef, produced through an organic livestock system. The business describes its organic beef as having higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids and lower concentrations of saturated fat than non-organic beef. Organic production is central to the farm’s agricultural activity, combining beef farming with land management practices intended to support soil health and environmental protection. Over the past decade, the farm has also diversified beyond its core livestock operation.

The farm manages fields that have not been ploughed for years, a practice used to retain carbon in the soil by helping remove it from the atmosphere. Its organic farming approach is also associated with reducing soil erosion and water pollution. In addition to beef production, the business operates The Old Farmhouse as guest accommodation, making use of its lochside setting and views across Loch Lomond. This combination of organic livestock farming, long-term soil stewardship and rural accommodation forms the farm’s operating model.
