In Southern Africa, forestry operations managed by Sappi Forests own and lease approximately 401,000 hectares of land, including 262,000 hectares of actively planted land and 139,500 hectares of unplanted natural areas conserved for biodiversity. The Research, Planning and Nurseries department supports the cost-effective and sustainable supply of suitable forest resources to the business. The Southern Africa Technology Centre has supported product creation, development and production for more than five decades, with more than 50 technicians and scientists conducting research and development. The business also provides spatial services intended to support decision-making within a circular economy.
