About This Company
Brompton Bicycle Ltd designs and makes folding city bicycles, electric bicycles, parts and accessories. Its A, C, P, G and T Line models address different riding needs, from compact urban journeys to longer distances and multi-terrain riding. The range includes steel models, lightweight bikes using titanium, steel, carbon and aluminium, and electric versions powered by the Brompton e-Motiq system. Bike configurations include 1, 3, 4, 8 and 12-speed options, with 16-inch or 20-inch wheels depending on the line. The folding design converts each bicycle into a compact package in under 20 seconds for carrying and storage.
Founded by engineer Andrew Ritchie in 1975, the business developed from hand-building bicycles to order in a small workshop into a global bicycle manufacturer. Each bike is handmade, tested and quality assured at its London factory, and frames are covered by a seven-year warranty. The T Line is hand TIG-welded in titanium at a purpose-built factory in Sheffield. Its manufacturing programme includes powder-coating processes that reuse paint, water recycling for steel-tube washing, and returnable packaging with suppliers. The company audits suppliers through its Ethical Trade Programme and requires compliance with standards based on International Labour Organisation conventions and the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industries Code of Conduct.
