Hilleberg the Tentmaker AB

Hilleberg the Tentmaker AB develops outdoor tents under the Hilleberg name. Its tent concept combines the outer tent and inner tent so that both are pitched simultaneously, rather than requiring the inner tent to be erected before a separate rain fly. This construction grew from founder Bo Hilleberg’s experience of tents with loose rain flies that performed poorly in wind. The company’s tent designs reflect outdoor use and include solutions intended to make pitching more practical in demanding conditions.

Founded in 1971 by professional forester Bo Hilleberg, the business began as a forestry equipment concern, with tent making initially planned as a sideline. Renate Neuner took responsibility for sewing while Bo led design and sales, forming the basis of the tent business. The company remains family connected: Bo serves as chairman and senior adviser to product development, while Petra Hilleberg is CEO of the Hilleberg Group and president of Hilleberg AB in Sweden and Hilleberg Inc in the United States. The governing board includes Bo, Renate, Petra, and Rolf Hilleberg. Product development has included a short pole sleeve and clip system for tents with multiple pole crossings, designed to simplify and speed pitching, particularly in windy conditions.
