Rai is Italy’s public radio, television, and multimedia concessionaire, operating across broadcast and digital formats under the national public service framework. Its activity combines the commissioning and production of editorial content with the transmission of radio and television signals in analog and digital environments. The company delivers news and current affairs, entertainment, sport, cultural programming, films, fiction, documentaries, children’s content, podcasts, audiobooks, and educational material through live and on-demand services. Its remit also covers technological services for signal production and transmission, together with control and monitoring systems.

The 2023 to 2028 Service Contract defines objectives, operational guidelines, quality parameters, and programme responsibilities, while preserving Rai’s independent editorial capacity within applicable legislation and available resources. The group structure extends into advertising sales, international distribution of production rights, audiovisual and film rights management, and satellite television. Rai Way manages and develops broadcast transmission networks for Rai and business clients, drawing on engineering and operational expertise, a Rome headquarters, 23 territorial offices, and more than 2,300 sites across Italy. Rai also recruits across editorial, production, technology, journalism, administration, and orchestral functions, reflecting the breadth of its media and technical operations.
