Marjin Kiri

Marjin Kiri is a book publisher whose programme includes Denyut Nadi Bumi: Geologi Politik di Jawa, a work that examines the political dimensions of geology in Java. The publication places modern accounts of the earth in conversation with Javanese spiritual perspectives, cultural life and political experience, challenging an interpretation of geological knowledge as the product of Western scientific observation alone. Its subject matter connects intellectual history, earth science and Indonesian social thought within a single scholarly narrative.

The title engages questions of how knowledge is formed through encounters among scientific inquiry, belief systems and public power. Isis: A Journal of the History of Science Society has highlighted the book’s argument that modern stories of the earth emerged through interaction between earth sciences and Javanese spiritual, cultural and political traditions. Through this publication, Marjin Kiri contributes to the circulation of serious nonfiction that approaches Java’s historical and intellectual contexts through an interdisciplinary lens.
