Founded in 1978, Apex Laboratories Private Limited manufactures and markets pharmaceutical formulations from Chennai. Its portfolio covers oral solids, oral liquids and topical dosage forms, with product areas spanning antipyretics and analgesics, anti-infectives, antidiabetics, respiratory treatments, dermatology, pain management, gastrointestinal care and cardiovascular dietary supplements. Nutraceuticals, food supplements, protein supplements, probiotics, vitamin D products and pregnancy supplements form an important part of the business. The company was an early introducer of zinc-based formulations in India and has developed a position in multivitamin and mineral supplements. Its branded formulations are exported to more than 25 countries, alongside distribution throughout India.

Four manufacturing plants serve domestic and overseas markets, including a greenfield plant established for regulated markets and a dedicated contract manufacturing facility for global companies operating in India. The plants operate under WHO GMP norms and use online documentation and quality management systems. Their food safety and environmental management systems are certified to ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 by TUV SUD. Product development and analytical laboratories support formulation work, testing and process improvement, with HPLC, gas chromatography, UV spectrophotometry and pilot plant resources. Research teams cover formulation development, analytical development and regulatory affairs. The company has also expanded into herbal products and strengthened its dermatology formulation work through research and development.
