Karwa Motors

Bus manufacturing is the core business of Karwa Motors, established in 2017 as a joint venture between Mowasalat, the state-owned transport company, and the Oman Investment Authority. The company develops buses for city transport, coach operations, work transport, and school applications. Its vehicles are designed to accommodate specified mechanical configurations and can incorporate Internet of Vehicles technology and smart transport management systems. These capabilities extend to driving behaviour and assistance functions intended to improve fleet oversight, fuel management, and accident avoidance.

Production takes place at a factory in Duqm on a site of approximately 220,000 square metres near the multipurpose port. The location provides access to international shipping lines and markets in Asia and Africa, while supporting aftermarket service and spare parts availability. Technology transfer arrangements with established international brands combine external production expertise with regional knowledge in buses made in the Sultanate of Oman. In 2025, the business produced and supplied approximately 900 vehicles to the local market. Cooperation agreements with local manufacturers cover glass, batteries, industrial gases, petroleum products, and lubricating oils, strengthening domestic procurement within its manufacturing operations.
