Synthesia, a.s. is a European manufacturer of specialty chemicals whose operations centre on advanced organic intermediates and organic pigments and dyes. Its organic chemistry business produces phosgene in liquid and gaseous forms, together with nitro compounds, amines, and related intermediates for plastics, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and adhesive applications. The company also manufactures organic urea-based gunpowder stabilizers, including Akardite, ethyl centralite, and methyl centralite, for ammunition producers serving military, hunting, and sport markets.

Production is concentrated at the SemtinZone industrial complex, where approximately 750 employees work across a 4.4-square-kilometre site. The operation reflects more than a century of chemical manufacturing in the Pardubice region, beginning with the establishment of the Czechoslovak Joint Stock Explosives Factory in 1920. Early development included nitrocellulose production from 1923 and in-house nitric and sulfuric acid production from 1925, establishing a technical foundation that continues to inform the company’s organic chemistry activities.
