Union Chlorine LLC

Established in 2013, Union Chlorine L.L.C. operates a chlor-alkali manufacturing plant in ICAD III, within the Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi. Commercial production began in the fourth quarter of 2017, with an operating capacity of 70 tons per day of caustic soda products. Its chemical portfolio includes caustic soda lye and flakes, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite, and anhydrous calcium chloride granules. These materials serve industrial uses that include pulp and paper, textiles, soaps and detergents, petroleum processing, aluminum production, water treatment, bleaching, sanitation, metal pickling, drilling, extraction, and chemical processing.

The plant uses membrane cell technology and a distributed control system for its chlor-alkali operations. This process is described as avoiding harmful byproducts and effluents. A fully equipped laboratory continuously analyzes samples from production lines to monitor product specifications. Caustic soda is supplied in road tankers, IBC totes, and PVC drums, while hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite are distributed in tanker, tote, and drum formats. Calcium chloride is packed in jumbo bags. The company maintains its own fleet and road tankers to manage supply to customers.
