Gawharet El Fan

Gawharet El Fan is a musical instrument business focused on oud, darbuka and riq, with a commercial foundation in Cairo’s established instrument trade. Its work spans instrument sales and the development of percussion products, including an Export Grade collection introduced in 2020. The company has invested in refining the darbuka drumhead, redesigning it through its research and development department to improve sound and durability. Packaging has also become part of its product engineering, with the company reporting an undamaged shipment record over a two-year period.

International activity has shaped the business since its annual participation at Musik Messe in Frankfurt from 1996 to 2006, where it secured contracts with brands from multiple markets. By 2006, the company had established a presence across 13 international markets, before moving from Muhammad Ali Street to Cairo’s central business district in 2010. A partnership with Malik Instruments established a European supply chain in 2019, extending distribution across key continental markets. The two businesses merged in 2020 to form an international headquarters in London, linking instrument development, export distribution and European market operations.
